14-7-2009 - HIMA safety system obtains Achilles Level I security certificate

HIMA has obtained security certification in accordance with Achilles Level I for the new HIMax safety system. In numerous tests, both the X-CPU 01 processor module and the X-COM 01 communication module in HIMax have proven their resilience and robustness against massive cyber attacks.

The networks for enterprise IT and automation continue to grow together. Unfortunately, this open network technology also leads to increasing security risks in automation. For this reason, the Canadian cyber security specialist Wurldtech developed a comprehensive test procedure for networked automation components. Upon successful completion of the tests, Wurldtech issues a security certificate that is particularly well established in the oil and gas industry.

For more than 10 years, HIMA has developed and produced safety systems with safety communication up to SIL 3 via standard Ethernet, and has gained many years of experience with security test procedures. In the development of the new HIMax safety system, HIMA integrated the Wurldtech Achilles test device and was certified in accordance with Achilles Level I in June 2009.

With the successful Wurldtech certification of the HIMax safety system, HIMA has once again proven that its safe automation solutions cover both functional safety and IT security in equal measure.
