26-11-2010 - Functional Safety without Compromise - HIMA sponsored the NAMUR Annual General Meeting 2010

With more than 40 years of experience in safety-related applications and more than 25,000 safety systems installed worldwide, HIMA is the ideal NAMUR partner for this year’s Annual General Meeting.

Steffen Philipp, Managing Partner, and Thomas Hinzmann, Executive Vice President Sales Process Automation and Service, demonstrated in their opening presentation, “Functional Safety without Compromise”, that when it comes to functional safety, much more than the use of certified components needs to be considered. In fact, with regard to plant availability and efficiency, it’s essential to evaluate the entire safety lifecycle, the human factor as the greatest source of error, and intelligent integration of safety solutions into the automation environment.

In some ways, operating a process plant or machine harbours considerable risk. But what is safety? By definition, safety is the freedom from danger. This freedom from danger, however, does not exist. Some risks always remain. ...
