Certificates – Proof of Qualification
The HIMA Academy certifies practical knowledge in Functional Safety and Cybersecurity – aligned with real-world roles and responsibilities in industry.
Certificate Levels:
- Expert Certificate – In-depth expertise across systems and applications
- Engineer Certificate – Advanced skills for system design and programming
- Technician Certificate – Practical knowledge for commissioning, operation, and maintenance
Validity and Prerequisites
- The certificates build upon each other – from entry-level to expert qualification. All certificates are valid for three years and can be renewed through a refresher course or expert-level training.
- Direct entry at Engineer level is possible without completing a Technician course, depending on prior experience.
- Technician and Engineer certificates are system-specific (e.g. HIMax, HIMatrix). The Expert Certificate is system-independent and requires practical experience working with HIMA systems.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Technicians gain foundational knowledge of system hardware, SILworX, diagnostic tools, and maintenance procedures. They support FAT/SAT, analyze messages, and are qualified to replace hardware modules.
In addition to the Technician content, engineers learn how to design hardware configurations, safety parameters, and user logic according to IEC 61131-3. They handle commissioning, program updates, and more advanced troubleshooting.
The Expert level covers in-depth topics such as communication protocols (e.g. SafeEthernet, Modbus), timing behavior, cybersecurity, reload strategies, and logical program structures. Practical experience with HIMA systems is a prerequisite.
Each certificate requires passing an exam. To renew a certificate via a refresher course, a prior regular training with certification must have been successfully completed.
For selected training courses lasting two to four days, you will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the final exam. Each certificate is valid for three years and meets the latest international safety standards.
You can extend your certification for another three years by attending a refresher seminar, ensuring that your expertise remains up to date.
Note: If you do not pass the exam or are unable to attend, you will receive a certificate of attendance. The exam can be retaken in a refresher course.
