The architecture of the HICore 1 is based on a redundant microcontroller system and separate processor cores. The intrinsic safety of the system is ensured by the combination with the secure operating system of HIMA. An additional non-secure core is available for additional tasks or as a communication subsystem. According to the specifications of IEC 61508, each of the integrated processor cores is equipped with its own complete infrastructure. This means that each core has its own program memories available.
