HIMA COTS systems enable digitalization

From September 20 to 23, InnoTrans 2022 in Berlin will be the international railway technology experts' meeting place. The focus will be on the digital transformation of the sector. Experts from HIMA will show how digitalization can be implemented securely and cost-effectively throughout the entire lifecycle – from engineering to remote maintenance.

The future will see a worldwide increase in autonomous and highly automated applications in railway technology. HIMA provides assistance to rail operators, system integrators and rolling stock manufacturers on this journey and will be presenting new solutions for the railway industry at InnoTrans in Hall 27, Booth 540. One of the highlights is the implementation of the new RaSTA (Rail Safe Transport Application) network protocol, the emerging solution in railway signaling. Another trend: Ever more decision-makers are turning to standardized commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions. Planners, plant engineers and operators will learn from the world's leading specialist for safety-related automation solutions how railway technology with SIL4/CENELEC-compatible safety controllers no longer need proprietary solutions.

"As a pioneer of COTS safety controllers for the railway industry, HIMA has revolutionized the rail world and has already successfully implemented more than 1,000 projects in over 30 countries since 2015," says HIMA CEO Jörg de la Motte. "With the implementation of the latest protocols, we are now driving digitalization forwards" he adds.

HIMA continues to contribute to making rail applications safer and more reliable, and executing them faster and more cost-effectively with its portfolio of certified, open systems. The platforms support low-cost operation throughout the systems' lifecycle, for example, by providing secure remote maintenance of all systems within a network environment. We will demonstrate how automated testing works as well as the associated savings potentials on the stand at InnoTrans.

"The developments related to the RaSTA network protocol, which enable improved diagnostics and increase availability, will undoubtedly prove to be a special highlight for visitors this year" reveals Sedat Sezgün, Head of Global Rail Application Center at HIMA.

At the leading international trade fair for transportation technology, HIMA will show trade visitors the details of how cyber security, certification and design engineering can add value to nearly every rail application. The basis for this is provided by the HIMax and HIMatrix safety controllers with open interfaces and the intuitive engineering, diagnostics and testing tool SILworX. Of special interest to many attendees, the implementation of open and proprietary protocols will be demonstrated live at the show.
