HIJunctionBox: Smart Safety Functions for Field Deployment

The HIJunctionBox expands the HIMA Smart Safety Platform directly into the field. Decentralized deployment of systems in the field level, including harsh environments, enables you to minimize the required deployment of marshalling cabinets, cable trays and master cables in your installation.

Are you already using HIMatrix or HIMax systems? Then you can simply deploy the HIJunctionBox within the Smart Safety Platform or as an extension to existing systems. Various configuration options are available for inputs and outputs, contributing to high flexibility and enabling communication with the SIS over fiber optics. This makes integration of the HIJunctionBox into existing installations quick and easy. The HIJunctionBox is certified according to ATEX and IECEx.

BENEFITS

More Efficiency in the Field

  • HIMA_Flexibel
    Flexible Adaptation
The uniform hardware and software design allows any necessary additional modules to be retrofitted easily and implemented locally.
  • HIMA_Einfache_Bedienung
    Short FEED Phase
The front-end engineering and design (FEED) effort is less than with traditional implementations.
  • HIMA_Kosten_einsparen
    Low Hardware Costs
Marshalling panels and a large part of the cabling from the field to the SIS are no longer necessary.
  • HIMA_Fehlertolerant
    Robust Design
The HIJunctionBox is certified for deployment in ATEX Zone 2 explosion hazard areas and can be used over the temperature range of –20°C to +55°C.
  • Faster Testing and Troubleshooting
Tests during the operational phase are relatively short due to the low complexity.
  • HIMA_Kosten_einsparen
    Low Infrastructure Costs
Space requirements in the control center are minimized and fewer cable trays and marshalling panels are necessary.
FEATURES

Straightforward Smart Safety

Benefits of modular I/O:

  • Pre-configuration and modular I/O enable fast and easy integration of the HIJunctionBox into existing installations.
  • A wide variety of functions can be implemented through modular I/O integration, from system control and monitoring to detailed diagnostics such as HART. The pretested basic structure allows factory acceptance tests (FAT) to be shortened, resulting in faster overall commissioning.

Conventional junction boxes have an associated marshalling panel that makes the connection to the remotely installed safety controller. By contrast, the HIJunctionBox is connected directly to the safety controller. In the event of loss of communication with the central system, the robust junction box continues to operate independently in the field, contributing to higher system availability.

The lockable enclosure of the HIJunctionBox is made from 316L stainless steel with a wall thickness of 2 mm and fulfills the requirements of IP 66/NEMA 4X protection ratings in accordance with IEC 60529. It is certified for deployment in ATEX Zone 2 explosion hazard areas and can be used over the temperature range of –20°C to +55°C.

Depending on the complexity of the application, the system is based on the HIMatrix or HIMax safety controller. It can be structured as a redundant system or as a mono system. Whether you use HIMax or HIMatrix components depends on the requirements of your installation.
High flexibility with I/O modules and the option of using the Reload function to transfer programming settings enable quick system expansion during live operation, even in the subsequent engineering process.

The HIJunctionBox is a component of the Smart Safety Platform, the world's first safety platform that supports the full range of SIL 3 applications: compact, non-redundant, and fully redundant. Customers can combine individual components as desired to implement their individual safety strategy flexibly and cost-effectively. Further components of the Smart Safety Platform include the HIMaxHIMatrix and HIQuad X controllers, the SILworX engineering tool and the SafeEthernet protocol.
